Has anyone any memories of recruitment at Ulverscroft Road in 1940/41. I am particularly interested in a description of the inside of the building and how the exercise was arranged once you got in there.
After Dunkirk my father responded to information that there was to be a Recruitment Drive and tried to enlist hoping to become a Naval Wireless Telegraphist, As he was under 21 and in a reserved occupation he was sent away to obtain his bosses' written permission, which was subsequently refused. He joined the LDV and ultimately went on to aircrew in Bomber Command where the reserved occupation restriction was not applied.
Does anyone remember any of these 'Recruitment Drives' at Ulverscroft Road and also how they were advertised.
